Monteriggioni is a small walled centre. The huge turn of walls was built during the first years of XIII century, and it was immortalized by Dante, today it is still intact with its 14 towers. Monteriggioni was built by the Sienesi in 1203 like defensive bastion against the invasion of Florence .
In 1260 it assumed the shapes which remained the same until today. The reduced dimensions of the center, have not allowed an ulterior development. The country is collected around the parochial church constructed at the end of XIV century. The dominant position on hills and the sense of unfinished increase the fascination of the place.
