Fonterutoli

Fonterutoli is an inhabited centre, already the Etruscans lived here, it has been proved by many archaeological finds. The road selciata is the only witness of the Roman period. In a document dating back to the 998 appears that, this is the place where the Emperor Ottone III wrote a document in favour of the diocese of Arezzo .

In the church of S.Miniato was stipulated a deal that established the end of the wars between Florence and Siena., it was the 1201 when the annexation of Montalcino to Siena and of Semifonte to Florence took place. In 1208 in the same church, Siena and Florence tried to maintain the peace.

In the 1245 there was a last meeting to resolve the territorial problems between Siena and Florence . The church of S.Miniato , and the walls of the town aren't there anymore, does not remain nothing. In the small square there is the new church and several houses well built.

On one side of the square there are the walls of Villa Mazzei, which was built in the second half of XVI century. Fonterutoli is a wonderful place for its beautiful buildings made of bricks, with doors and stone balconies, the surrounding country and the sense of eternity given by the solidity of the buildings.
