Badia a Passignano is a stronghold in the middle of Val di Pesa, and the country is one of the most important of Chianti. The country was born thanks to San Giovanni Gualberto, that was a monk who has founded a new order.
In the country there is an important abbey, Abbey of St Michel who was activated in 1049. In the long run the abbey has grown up as a castle and around this place was born an important community with an important weight politically economic and social. The abbey now is more similar at a stronghold instead of a location to pray. Also there is an important and big tower with a clock; around the tower there is a building with a square shape with towers. The church of Badia a Passignano, is reminded for a chapel that was painted in fresco for Domenico Cresti in 1601. In the chapel there also are two works of Michele and Rodolfo Ghirlandaio. Another important part of the chapel is the refectory decorated with the Ultima Cena of Domenico and davide del Ghirlandaio.
