It seems that the name Artimino is linked to the shape of the place and it is ensue from “actus minor”, that meaning minor passage. Even if the place was inhabited since II century b.C., the most ancient document is dated 998. Artimino was a place contended by Florentines and the inhabitants of Pistoia till 1326 when the place became a florentine domain.
In the place it is possible to see the ruin of an ancient castle. This ancient building and the Artimino’s tower are dated back to 1026.
Thanks to his position, during the Renaissance, Artimino became property of Medici. At the top of the country is it possible to see an oratory, then going down along the street there is an ancient farm. Near to the country there is the Church of Saint Leonard and the Villa “la Ferdinanda” also called "one hundred fireplaces" for the number of the chimneys. The villa designed by Buontalenti with the help of Gherardo Menchini was started in the 1596 and was built in only four years.
Today the main place is the Artimino’s museum, where is it possible to see Etruscan rests.
In the middle between Artimino and Comeana there is the Etruscan necropolis.
